Ah, then this would not apply to Carfury as the Carnfuru spelling dates 
from 1327 and the omission of <th/dh> would not have occurred as early 
as that (and none of the other spellings have th/dh, either).  It looks, 
at present, as if furow, "wise men", is the only possible option.
