Sorry, Jon, my query about <áles> v. <alés> was 
unrelated to schwa. This is a second question. I 
ought to have made that clearer.

English <cónsole> 'confortya' and <consóle> 
'alwhedhel' differ in terms of stress (with the 
difference of [kOn] in the former and [k at n] in 
the latter.
