Middle Cornish /ø/ was sometimes written as <u> (hence Nance's mur,
etc) but then comes up in Late Cornish with spellings like <e>. Now, I
don't know whether <ew> ever appears for /ø/ or not. <ew> might be
more consistent with Nicholas' /y/ becoming /Iw/ interpretation. (But
then we must have dëdh, MC du-, and LC de- as three more or less
separate items.)
