[Spellyans] y-umlaut in 'Beunans Meriasek' ?

I don't pretend to be correct but I have always understood this to be  
as follows:

to destroy = destrya (des-TREE-uh)
destroyed = destryes (des-TREE-uz)

In other words - ye- to be disyllabic.
