That's true Ray, and this historical view is still supported by  
actual speech. Although the 'St.' prefix is universally used in  
written and printed information, in reality local people usually say  
just 'Buryan' . In which case it's likely that this is not something  
that's gradually come about as a contraction, but reflects historical  
usage.
