[Spellyans] dictionnaire de l'Academie francaise

It is a problem Michael, but the Welsh Language Board was appointed to address
this sort of thing within its remit to "promote and facilitate" the use of the
Welsh language. I'm not sure how instrumental they ever were in getting ŷ & ŵ
glyphs into the Unicode/UTF-8 character set (I know they've been badgering
Microsoft & Apple for years) but plainly more needs to be done to promote the
accommodation of these forms among font designers and online font marketplaces.

The Welsh Language board's take on this is in their PDF publication; Information
Technology & The Welsh Language: A Strategy Document.
http://www.byig-wlb.org.uk/english/publications/publications/3965.pdf

It doesn't help that companies like Myfonts.com have stupid language-support
categories like 'Western Europe' which plainly contain fonts which don't support
all Western European languages! - Surely either a font can be marketed to
support "Western Europe" or it can't! Mind you, doing that search as a Welshman
amazes me as to just how many awesome commercial fonts DO support ŵ & ŷ!

Best wishes,
Ceri Young

Go to Myfonts.com. Type "modern" or any other word you like in the search box.
It will show you how many fonts have been tagged with that word. There are 2618
"modern" fonts there. There are 628 tagged with "artistic"; there are 2104
tagged with "handwriting".

You can paste â ê î ô û ŵ ŷ into the Sample Text box, and you will see how very
few fonts have ŵ and ŷ.
