Another side note.
The standard Irish word for ‘wasp’ is foiche fem. The variant I heard in Co. Galway is fothach masc., pl. fothacha.
According to Masatovic’s Etymological Dictionary of Proto-Celtic the Irish word is a borrowing from Brythonic.
