Perhaps because there was a word in that spot already; "enourn" means 'adorn':

?c1425 *Chauliac(2) (Paris angl.25)   10a/a:  Manis body..is al oo þing, honoured or made faire [*Ch.(1): enourned; L decoratum] wiþ resoun.
