Jenefer, and colleagues, 

That is excellent news of progress on the idea of a language trail.   I am
delighted that my earlier suggestions and forward of relevant Gaelic
literature has borne fruit.   One of the texts I have lived by is
Ecclesiastes 11.1: 'Cast your bread upon the waters and after many days it
shall return unto you again.'   I am sure that this one will bear much fruit
- and my congratulations in getting this project under way.   In the past I
have suggested both Lergh an Yeth, and Forth an Yeth for this idea.   The
former is of course literally the Language Trail.  The second might be more
copeable for non-Cornish language users.  I appreciate the point about not
publicising until the initiatives materialise - so meanwhile shall stay
stumm.

This also prompts me to add in the work of the Partnership's Place-names and
Signage Panel.  This would be an obvious basic resource for any mapping
projects.

May I just note that most of the research and work on a 'blue plaque' trail
for the language has already been done. A potential overarching scheme for
cultural 'blue plaques' in Cornwall has been in development and the Cornish
language trail (inspired by the Gaidhlig publications Ken sent us a while
back) has been put forward by us as a discrete section within the wider
project, with its own leaflets and guidebooks. If the funding does not
materialise and the full scheme does not go forward, then we shall look at
other ways of implementing the language part in its own right, but obviously
there is sense in working co-operatively to start with - especially if that
results in funding. I will keep the group posted on progress, but there
seems little point in duplicating the initial research at this stage.  As
you will realise, we do not publicise projects if they are still waiting on
funding applications, especially where the full project is not entirely
ours, so I would be grateful if you would treat this as privileged
information and I will update you as and when I can. We will also be
checking for any omissions anyone can spot in the work done once we know
where we are with it and would much appreciate your input at that stage.

If, as a first step, a set of sites, a route and suitable labels can be
sorted/agreed for the Lergh an Yeth, then Christian could get the symbol and
bilingual labels onto the map as the second step. The steps 3/4 could be the
leaflet/guidebook, and the plaques themselves.

Christian, let me know if you need a hand with anything (in parallel to your
first steps with OpenStreetMap I downloaded the Miniscale OS Opendata maps -
they are quite good too for overlaying of features you want; but I did not
get very far or technical, mainly considered using it as a backdrop vector
for new graphics and text layers).

At some stage it would be really nice to have a sort of "pilgrimage" map
that showed all the places where people can see some Cornish  and where
people significant in the revival lived, etc.

I may just have a go at this when I have some time - I have some
'semi-professional' graphics skills, producing tomes / posters for client's
significant birthdays, and have the software to do this. I also have a
friend who has produced published maps of our local area. I'd have to
research the legal / copyright situation with regard to getting an accurate
layout of Cornwall, and symbols etc. that I can use (probably by use of the
OS Opendata facility), and also rely on you all for direction / objectives
for the project, content editing, feedback and so on.

This would be after my daughters wedding and subject to a lot of issues that
I might have the time to resolve - I'm confident I could produce something,
I'm just not 100% familiar with the legal side, and how we go about
including content that is obviously not 100% original.

What do people think? If someone more qualified is keen to take this on,
then please don't hesitate, but I do like a challenge.

the book has.
